You should never have teeth pulled. They can slowly widen your palate to accommodate the teeth using an appliance like a Schwartz expander or the Damon System which uses arch like wire that puts a light pressure on the teeth expanding the palate and dental arch.
Sixfoottoo, I had my palate expanded prior to having teeth pulled. In addition to My expander I had 5 teeth extracted and have since had my braces for 9 months. 3 spaces have already closed and did so very quickly. My jaw definitely needed the extra space, so no problem.
